THE last time I attempted to read Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe I was about 14 - and gave up after the first 30 pages.
My second attempt came when I was 18 and had just started university. Feeling cultured, intelligent and student-like I thought I'd give the classic another go - after all, I was much older and more mature by this point.
To my shame, Moll soon found herself abandoned in favour of an easier read.
So, with a renewed determination I have decided to pick up the old girl once again and this time, I will finish it. She is my bedtime read for the forseeable future.
It's that or having to admit publicly that once again, I have failed to conquer Mr Defoe's masterpiece.
Wish me luck!
