LITTLE darling... it's been a long, cold lonely winter, doo-doo-de-dooh.
Yep, the snow of February feels like years ago now and summer is on its way and rumour has it it's going to be a good one.
And whether you're swanning off to exotic foreign climes or simply heading down to Old Town Gardens with a beach towel and a few sarnies, surely there's nothing better than lazing about in the sun with a good book?
And we at the Adver would like to hear your recommendations. Whether it's a battered old favourite or hot off the press, we'd like readers to tell us which books they would advise fellow bookworms to pop in their bag and get stuck into.
Tell us what it is and why and we'll pass it on in the Adver!
I'll get the ball rolling.
My first choice is To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The classic story set in the American deep south of Jem and Scout and their lawyer father Atticus Finch who defends a black man accused of rape. I won't say any more, except it is one of the most beautiful, inspiring amd magical books ever written.
Second, try Any Human Heart by William Boyd. Taking the form of ficational character Logan Mountstuart's diary, it takes you on an adventure through the 20th century, from the 1920s to the 1980s. Soldier, art dealer, lothario and spy, Mountstuart meets a number of major figures along the way, from Edward VIII and Mrs Simpson to Picasso to Ian Fleming. It's a riot of a read, incredibly witty and extremely moving.
