My Everything by Alex Dixon

Wealth,
Good health,
A job and a house,
Family and friends.
These are so important to me,
They are my security.
They are my reason for living,
My treasure,
My pleasure.

But what if they were gone?
What if I lost them,
Suddenly?
Then what would carry me-
Mired in poverty,
Ill in mind and body,
Jobless and homeless,
With no friends or family.
All gone.

Who would I be then?

No longer employee,
No longer friend,
No longer wife,
No longer mother.
Because these roles define me,
They are my security,
They make me, me.
So who would I be?
Nobody?

But the truth is,
He is my security.
To me He is all things,
Without Him I am nothing.
So if I were to lose all these things,
Tragic - yes,
Defeated - no.
He is the one who makes me, me.
Without Him I am nothing,
He is my everything.

My treasure,
My pleasure,
My reason for being.
My Father in Heaven.
(With thanks to Colin).
