With Amy Martin of Sustrans

After the success of our Cycling Pop Up Shop last Saturday, we are really excited about our up-coming Geocaching Treasure Hunts.

Being held on Tuesday, July 22, and Thursday, July 24, from 3.15pm to 5.15pm, geocaching is where you use GPS to find hidden boxes (caches).

There are hundreds throughout Swindon and we have set up a Sustrans course for you and your family to discover.

Each box is like a small treasure chest and contains different objects and a notepad, to record who has found the cache and when.

You can take an item out of the box, but you have to replace it with something else, so that there is always something new for people to find.

You can even buy travel bugs, which are ID tags that are registered to you and can be tracked on the Geocaching website. People move the travel bugs from cache to cache, some travelling to different countries and back!

There are geocaches all over the world and geocaching has become a really popular family activity, as it’s so similar to treasure hunting.

So why not come along to our free events and find out how to geocache?

The activities are self-led, but we will give you a map with the locations and information, as well as details on how to use a GPS enabled device to find the caches.

It’s a great fun, free way to explore Swindon with your family, so why not give it a try this month?

We will be meeting at The Beach at Peatmoor Lagoons to give out instructions after school on July 22 and 24.
