EASTER is a chocolate-coated fun-packed holiday – and this requires a heavy dose of resourcefulness from parents to keep their brood suitably entertained.

But never fear, our round-up of egg hunts and activities will give you a much-welcome head start when planning two weeks’ worth of Easter revelry.

Between tomorrow and April 12, Steam will jump on the Easter hunt bandwagon with trails, games and interactive activities. A Spring Trail will run between 10am and 5pm every day for children up to six years old.

They will get to follow a series of clues and win a special goody bag filled with a bouncy ball and fun activity packs to do at home.

Entry is £3 on top of the £6 child Steam admission. Children aged seven to 11 will be challenged to the Detective Activity Box and Trail every day from 10am to 5pm.

They will have to uncover clues using their secret message pen to record the evidence. Tickets are £5 on top of the £6 admission fee.

From April Friday to Monday, the Swindon & Cricklade Railway will hold a special Easter Egg-Spress event.

The Easter bunny will be on hand to distribute choccy treats as part of the celebrations and a cheeky train journey will be thrown in for railway fans.

Admission is £6 for adults and £4 for children.

Back by popular demand, The Great Lydiard Park Easter Egg Trail will welcome little ones on a globetrotting journey on Sunday.

“This year the theme is Easter Around the World,” said Alice Armstrong, marketing officer at Lydiard Park. “Children will pick up the trail from Lydiard House and get a fact sheet to find out about the different Easter traditions in different countries like America.

“They will then have to spot the country’s flag on the trail.

“We will be taking them around the park, the lake, the woodlands.

“They will come back to the house and pick up their Easter surprise.”

The trail will run from 10am to 4pm. Entry is £4 per child.

For those more theatrically inclined The Snail and The Whale will roll into the Wyvern on Tuesday for a two-day run.

In the show produced by Tall Stories, the creators of The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom, a tiny snail longs to see the world, so she hitches a lift on the tail of a humpback whale.

But when the whale gets beached, how will the snail save him? Admission is £12.

It will run on Tuesday at 2pm and 4.30pm and on Wednesday at 11am and 2pm.

The Wyvern will also show Disney’s animated film Up at 11am in its restaurant next Wednesday.

Tickets are £10 and include a buffet and ice-cream.
