WHEN the icy night wind is whipping about your front door, you tend to open it only for a good reason.

One very good reason, let me tell you, is a man from Swindon’s Gandhi Tandoori waiting to hand you a sizeable bag of aromatic spicy wondrousness.

I’ve no idea which bits of one’s heart the cockles are, but if yours need warming then this place, based at the bottom of Victoria Road, is one that’ll get the job done.

My faithful curry-loving assistant and I started with a chicken chat, which we shared as a starter. The succulent, juicy meat was fully infused with the delicious flavours of chilli, turmeric, lemon juice, garlic and various other enticing things, setting us up nicely for the mains.

Mine was chicken karahi, generous with the peppers and onion as well as plenty of that juicy meat I mentioned earlier, not to mention garlic, ginger and other ingredients that are probably secret.

My faithful assistant opted for another old favourite, lamb jalfrezi, which struck just the right balance between flavoursomeness and fire.

Our meal came complete with a mushroom rice - one was big enough for both of us - as well as four poppadoms and keema naan - and cost a grand total of £21.

And who said one couldn’t put a price on happiness?
