A lively talk, in conjunction with the current exhibition, Present Tense, is an introduction to the fascinating contemporary British art in the Swindon Collection.

Swindon Museum and Art Gallery Curator, Sophie Cummings, aims to debunk the myths and stereotypes that surround contemporary art by focusing on the treatment of the body, place, reality and memory in some extraordinary contemporary work.

Present Tense showcases paintings and photography from the outstanding Swindon collection of modern 20th Century British art, and includes a work by Maggi Hambling, whose work is currently being featured in an exhibition at the National Gallery in London.

More talks to accompany the exhibition: Lisa Milroy, whose work reflects everyday life and objects will be giving a talk at the exhibition on Monday 2nd February on the pleasure of painting, while John Greenwood – a contemporary of Damien Hirst and Rachel Whiteread - will give a talk on Thursday 19th March.

Tickets are £4.50 and can be booked at the Museum and Art Gallery.

The Museum & Art Gallery is free to look around and open Wednesday till Saturday, 11.00am–3.00pm and from 10.00am during school holidays.
