TAILS wagged furiously in North Swindon on Saturday as Janet’s Puppy Skool hosted its annual dog show extravaganza.

Around 150 of the town’s cutest canines descended on Haydon Wick Farmhouse to strut their stuff in front of a formidable judging duo – PCSOs Billy Corpe and Jess Dyer.

The event, one of the most popular in the Puppy Skool’s calendar, was held to raise funds for Children in Need, which will be broadcast on the BBC later this month.

The judges were on the lookout for the pup with the waggiest tail, the friendliest dog, the dog the judges would most like to take home and the pooch that performed the best trick.

Organiser Janet Garrett said: “Last year we weren’t able to do as much fundraising as we would have liked. So this year we thought we would do something for Children in Need.

“All the raffle prizes have been donated and the cakes for the cake stall were baked by pupils from a few different schools.

“Every penny we raise will go directly to Children in Need as it is such a worthwhile cause.”

Also on offer for the keen spectators were pop-up stalls selling various goodies and doggie-related trinkets.

Tracey Hicks, who had brought along her prize pooch, a two-year-old Cavapoo called Sausage, said: “We came last year and it was absolutely brilliant, really good fun.

“I don’t think Sausage will win the waggiest tail category, she tends to just sit on hers.”

There was also a special category just for puppies called ‘Agility against the Clock’, which saw some of the youngest dogs give it their all in a titanic effort to wow the judges.

There was even a special guest appearance from the Puppy Skool’s longest attending dog, a 10-year-old chocolate Labrador called Ruby.

Ruby’s proud owner Sarah Nethercot said: “She has been coming here since she was 16 months old. The dog show is always so much fun, and it’s always very popular.

“It will be great to see all the dogs and I’m sure everyone will enjoy themselves.”
