WROUGHTON residents got a taste of Christmas heaven this week as a host of knitted angels mysteriously appeared in the village overnight.

The street art of yarn bombing was given a yuletide twist as an unknown group of knitters festooned the high street with dozens of knitted angels as gifts for local residents on Wednesday.

Angels, which all bore the tag Peace on earth, could be seen draped over trees, perched on railings and wrapped around lampposts in the early hours of the morning.

The heavenly gathering went down a storm with members of the public who flocked to social media to praise the mystery knitters.

Jane Harcourt wrote: “It was so lovely to see the angels when I walked down the High Street last night. They're beautiful. Thank you to everyone who was involved.

Sarah Louise Treadaway said: Wroughton has such a lovely community atmosphere and things like this cements this feeling

Mark Richardson said: “Whoever it was who did this, thank you and I wish you a fantastic Christmas and New Year. They are a lovely gesture and looked great hung out for people.”

Last December Royal Wootton Bassett also saw a heavenly descent when knitted angels popped up overnight in the town.

At the time rumours were abound that the Methodist Church were behind the yarn bombing.
