ZUMBA enthusiasts are in for a treat later this month as a Stratton fitness club is holding its second annual Zumbathon to raise funds for charity.

Participants will endure an intense but fun workout dressed as their favourite superhero to raise money for children’s leukemia charity CALM.

Held at Grange Leisure in Grange Drive, the Zumbathon is open to everyone of all ages and fitness abilities.

Anne Harris, senior fitness officer at Grange Leisure, said: “Last year’s event was a huge success and we are hoping that this year will be even bigger.

“We are encouraging as many people as possible to come down and join in the fun. Even if you can’t take part for the whole session, just do what you can do and raise some money for a hugely worthwhile charity.”

The Zumba marathon will last from 12noon until 3pm, though participants are not expected to Zumba, non-stop for the entire three hour period.

Anne said: “There will be around five or six different instructors leading a range of different Zumba workouts. It’s a bit of fun and a great excuse to keep fit.

“The superhero theme should make for a really memorable event. Quite often with Zumba it’s all about colour and vibrancy, and everybody likes to have a dress up.

“The instructors are wonderful, they just make you want to get up and do it.

“Here at Grange Leisure we are all about getting people fit and active. We are a focal point in the community and we want to get as many people exercising as we can.”

Last year around 50 people took part and organisers are hoping for an even bigger turn out this year.

CALM, which helps children who suffer with leukemia, is the chosen charity of Stratton St Margaret Parish Council chairman Joe Tray, and it’s one people are more than happy to get behind.

Anne said: “Anybody can be affected by this and it’s very important to help those in need. We are pleased to support a charity that does such good work.”

The event takes place on Sunday, April 23 and tickets are only available on the door. They cost £10.00 for adults and £5.00 for children.
