CROWDS of competitors and onlookers packed into Swindon’s only indoor skatepark for an Easter extreme sports extravaganza.

Scooter riders, skateboarders and BMXers from Swindon and beyond took to the ramps and rails of the ATBShop Skate Warehouse to compete in the third annual Urban Rider Games.

As Swindon’s premier extreme sports event, the Games is always guaranteed to draw a good crowd but this year the numbers were bigger and more excited than ever.

Organisers drafted in huge names to take their seats on the judging panel including world champion scooter rider Jordan Clark and European champion Lewis Williams.

In between categories the pros took to the ramps themselves to show off the skills that propelled them to the top of the sport.

But it wasn’t just about those with a big profile.

The Urban Rider Games was started back in 2015 as a way to show off the talent that Swindon-based skaters and scooter riders had to offer and once again they didn’t disappoint.

In one of the closest battles of the afternoon, 10-year-old Jack Tanner triumphed over 11-year-old Tino Gumiro in a real crowd pleasing contest.

Both boys proved age is irrelevant when it comes to pulling off the top tricks.

For ATBShop co-owner Di Kirk, 2017 was another roaring success.

“It’s been brilliant, we’re so pleased,” said Di.

“We’ve gone through 400 burgers, which just gives you an idea of how many people are here.

“At one point it was five or six deep in there because so many people came down, it’s been great, definitely bigger than last year.

“The standard has been amazing and people are travelling afar too.

“Two of our judges came back from Greece - we really couldn’t do it without their support.

“Also the guys from Vans in the Outlet Village, who gave up their time for free to help us today and Hills Waste, who’ve been great.”
