SLEEPY Lydiard Millicent was bustling on Bank Holiday Monday as residents braved the changeable weather to have fun at the fourth village show.

They queued to climb the bell tower at the parish church, listened to live music and admired photographs and poetry submitted for the competitions.

As warm sunshine made an appearance Rev Trisha Roberts, whose husband Tudor is the vicar, said the weather had been relatively kind. “Last year the schoolchildren did maypole dancing and the heavens opened.”

It was the first time for several years that the bell tower have been opened and many were keen to take a peek.

“We’ve just not had the opportunity to do it for a while, but the bell ringing team are very happy to show people the tower,” she said.

One of the reasons it was so popular was that earlier in the year the school children had visited and had a chance to ring the bells. “So the wanted to take their mums and dads up there and show them.”

As well as cake and refreshments in the village hall, a team from Swindon Restore was on hand to show the charity’s work.

“It has been lovely to have them here,” said Trisha. She explained the church had commissioned the group to build a six foot cross for its Easter services and invited members back to the show as a result.
