MEMBERS of Royal Wootton Bassett and District Art Society have celebrated their 35th anniversary.

Club president Philip Flowerdew and one of the founder members and former treasurer, Mary Harrison cut a special cake during the group’s Christmas party at Hook village hall last Wednesday.

It was the last meeting of 2017 and more than 40 guests, including members, supporters and town crier Owen Collier toasted the landmark birthday with sparkling wine before taking part in a quiz and raffle.

The results of the Club’s Winter Competition were announced by Roger Jones from Lechlade Art Society, who had been invited to judge the entries.

He announced the winners after giving a critique of the work on display.

Winner of the English Summer category was Mike Spurling, Jacqui Mason took the top spot in the Tea for Two class and Paula Clifford won Christmas Chaos.

The Club’s artist of the year was Sue Tennant, who accumulated the most points over several competitions during the year.

More than 30 amateur and professional artists are in the club which holds regular workshops at the village hall. Members meet again on January 3.
