TURNER Prize winning artist Grayson Perry was one of the icons of British culture who pushed the boundaries of ceramics.
The flamboyant artist, famous for his vases, tapestries and cross dressing, is just one of the potters included in the Pioneers exhibition at Swindon’s Art Gallery and Museum in Bath Road until March 10.
The exhibition of studio pottery was put together to inspire Bristol school children, showcasing the very best of the ceramic artists of the 1960s and 1970s including Bernard Leach, Michael Cardew, Lucy Rie, Hans Coper, Janet Leach, Ruth Duckworth, Gillian Lowndes and Gwyn Hanssen Pigott.
Nicki Western, from the Swindon Art Gallery said: “The exhibition will explore the ideas of the studio pottery movement in the 1960s and their continuing relevance with the current interest in craft, buying local, and handmade.’’ Free entry. www.swindonmuseumandartgallery.org.uk
