Kardien Gerbrands – aka Gerb – on what’s going on at Swindon’s farmers’ markets
There is an Easter break for the Sunday farmers’ market at the outlet village this weekend and it will seem somewhat of a watershed, as when we return on the 27th we will be looking forward into spring and summer, with tomatoes and cucumbers already available, new season bunch carrots a couple of weeks away and Siddington farm strawberries possibly having their first stall.
We have a great mix of stalls at the market with two vegetable growers, two meat farmers, street food from Funky Falafel, Sufi Spice and Hinton Marsh Farm, bread from the Old Farmhouse Bakery and La Parisienne, Pippin Doughnuts, cupcakes, cheddar and goat’s cheeses, English grape and hedgerow wines and ciders, savoury gourmet pies, the Wiltshire Chilli farm and occasional appearances from the Kelsmor Dairy whole milk ice cream wagon, The Cotswold Curer, The Garlic Farm, Seven Bridges local honey, Vineyard Pottery and Rob the carver.
Down at Havelock Square on a Thursday things are still difficult, as we have reached that strange point where the few stalls there every Thursday are struggling to make it worth their while.
Please come down and support that market. With a bit more custom we will get more stalls and the market can grow and flourish.
