THERE’S a new team at The Crown in Broad Hinton... and they’ve dreamed up a mouth-watering summer menu and a whole host of activities for the next few weekends.

In their own words, Swindon-born Tony Edwards and his wife Clare “want to create a welcoming destination for everyone at The Crown.

“A place where you can bring your partner, family and friends, and enjoy a great meal with friendly faces. “With all the events, the guest house and the restaurant we focus on delivering quality service. “We love serving locals and being involved with the village community, they have been massively welcoming to us.”

I was invited to sample the summer menu at this cosy Arkells pub, just four miles outside Swindon.

We started with a drink in the huge garden on a balmy summer evening and found ourselves spoiled for choice with a comprehensive menu. The Crown caters for those just wanting a light snack to those wanting a hearty three courses.

I began with a garlic and chilli flat mushroom, topped with a cheese souffle (£5.50), then worked my way through a pan-fried, perfectly-cooked duck breast served with celeriac and apple puree, chestnut mushrooms and parmentier potatoes (£15.50). Gorgeous.

The Crown has a number events planned for the coming weeks, starting tomorrow with the Splash-tastic Saturday Spectacular, a family fun day with a barbecue.

You are advised to bring your water guns.
