Market manager Kardien Gerbrands talks about Swindon’s farmers’ markets

The farmers market at the outlet village every Sunday has so much more to offer than you might first think.

There are proper beef burgers and sausages made with choice cuts, not offal, and all the meats are free range; there are goat’s cheeses made in tiny batches by hand, potted every morning before market; there is honey from bees foraging within four miles of the market; vegetables that have been driven to market straight from the fields without spending days in storage; jams and preserves made with vegetables and fruits grown by the maker themselves.

Yes, all these things are true about the market, of course, but did you know that at Newtown Estates you can buy superb white or pink bubbly from English grapes? That the Beadcounter makes all her fused glass tiles, bowls, beads and jewellery in Swindon and that her fabulous range of glass tree decorations are now available?

That craft stalls regularly attend the market and this week we will have Vineyard Pottery, 143 Crafts and Aristone garden ornaments, with a leather worker selling handmade belts and bags and Jolly Holly wreaths and table decorations coming next week.

Orders for Christmas are now being taken so come along between 10am and 4pm on Sunday.
