Market manager Kardien Gerbrands talks about Swindon farmers' markets

WELL, dear readers, I wonder if you managed to sample the cherries at the market last Sunday?

They were divine, dahlings!

I since found out that cherries are one of the lowest calorie soft fruits whilst being packed full of health-benefiting compounds that are essential for wellness. How can you resist?

I believe that by eating seasonally — eating the produce that is in season in the environment where I live — I give myself the maximum potential for health.

Nature provides us with the essentials that our bodies need and at this time of year we should be stocking up on all those nutrients that the fruits and vegetables currently in season provide. If you can’t manage five a day at this time of year how will you manage in the winter?

Elsewhere, the honey man of Seven Bridges Honey Farm returns this week with the first of this summer’s harvest. It hasn’t been a spectacular year for honey with the lengthy dry spell affecting flowering times, but having said that, it’s not bad either, so I hear.

On the busking competition front the contest is well under way so if any buskers out there want to enter please go the Swindon page of our website; www.fresh-n-local.co.uk or find us on facebook at Swindon Farmers Market.
