Market manager Kardien Gerbrands talks about Swindon farmers' markets

GLAMOROSE cupcakes have been a regular feature of the farmers’ market at the Designer Outlet every Sunday for a couple of years now and have built up a strong following for their delicious cakes and excellent designs.

When you Google “bakers in Swindon”, rather surprisingly the only two businesses that come up are Pippin Doughnuts (also at the market) and Glamorose! All of their cakes are prepared at the permanent shop in High Street in Old Town, where they also have a display of cupcakes, tiffin, brownies and other cakes, as they do at the farmers’ market.

They have been building the business since first opening four years ago to include cupcake decorating parties, birthday and celebration cakes and wedding cakes, and their new edible printer enables them to print corporate logos for business clients looking for cakes for conferences and work parties.

The core of the business, however, is the cupcake counter at the shop and market. Their menu has been developed and added to; new experiments, random ideas, and lots of testing has gone into developing the recipes.

Jessie Dennis, proprietor, says: “There a few things we have learned through our cupcake making journey; firstly to make sure that there is always raspberry white chocolate in stock – customers got upset if we don’t have any on the shelf!; secondly, the fondness the British general public have for both peanut butter and Nutella, or even both!”
