AFTER 20 years in the business many boybands would be struggling, but Boyzone proved their fans still love them for a reason when they took to the stage on Friday.

The Irish singers, famous for hits including Picture of You, Words and Love Me For A Reason, performed at Westonbirt Arboretum in front of thousands of people on a balmy evening.

The performance was a continuation of their BZ20 tour and Ronan, Keith, Shane and Mikey showed that despite being undeniably a man band now, they still have the voices and the dance moves to continue entertaining for years to come.

From the upbeat numbers like When the Going Gets Tough and Love You Anyway, to ballads including No Matter What and Baby Can I Hold You, the band were on top form.

The foursome made an emotional tribute to late bandmate, Stephen Gately, who died in 2009, joking about what he would say if he knew they were performing in forests, saying he would probably think they were all wearing tights and stealing from the rich to give to the poor.

On a serious note, they also spoke about how hard it had been losing someone so close to them, before encouraging everyone to raise a glass to him.

Support act, Westlife’s Kian Egan, provided a great warm-up before the show, with his medley of Westlife ballads going down a treat.

With the sun shining down on one of the hottest days of the year, Westonbirt and Boyzone proved to be the perfect combination. – EMMA DUNN
