Musicians who create tribute bands to their music heroes have rarely worked with them, or been in almost daily contact, but Greg Alcock from Limehouse Lizzy, was guitar tech for Brian Robertson of Thin Lizzy.

Not only did Greg absorb the technicalities of the prog rock giants’ songs, but he got to know the man behind the guitar, to appreciate the ethos of the musicians as well as the Lizzy sound.

The boys will be back in town on October 10 playing at the Arts Centre, Devizes Road in Swindon’s Old Town from 8pm.

Greg, a guitarist best known for his wizard wah-wah-style of performance, has played alongside Brian on stage and Brian Downey from Thin Lizzy as well as members of UFO, The Quireboys and Eddie Tenpole Tudor.

Today he, and his trusty steed of a guitar, stand shoulder to shoulder with Wayne Ellis in Limehouse Lizzy, keeping alive them music they love that was brought into being by Phil Lynott and the gang.

Wayne said: “When my compadre, my partner in crime, the number one Greg Alcock, flips on that wah-wah pedal in songs like Warrior he unleashes hell and brings Armageddon with him.’’ The guys founded the band in 1993 creating a theatre show of explosive pyrotechnics riding alongside the fireworks flaming from their nimble fingers.

Since the death of former Thin Lizzy guitarist, Gary Moore, Limehouse Lizzy has added a tribute section into their set, showcasing some of his material.

The four-piece appeared on the BBC2 Arena documentary Into The Limelight , following it up with a world tour of the same name including a headline gig at the Rock Festival in Greece and the Virgin Atlantic Music festival in Barbados.

Wayne is the bass player and lead singer in the band, and has an uncanny resemblance to Phil Lynott, but it his passion and determination to keep the songs as fresh and exciting as the year Phil wrote them, that makes Limehouse Lizzy’s sound special.

This year the band has been on huge European tour including countries they have never visited before such as Denmark and the Czech Republic.
