A FEAST of classic symphonies will both delight and inspire the audience at Swindon Symphony Orchestra’s concert on Sunday, November 23.

The performance, which will feature works by Beethoven, Mozart and Hummel, will set out to raise funds for Living Well Day, an initiative run by Macmillan nurses to support prostate cancer patients.

“The two dramatic and expressive Beethoven works were composed during the Napoleonic wars,” an SSO spokesman explained.

“The overture paints a musical picture of a 16th century Dutch nobleman, the Count of Egmont, who was executed for fighting against Spanish domination in the Netherlands, and the third symphony was originally dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte but Beethoven tore up the title page and it is now known as the Eroica Symphony.

“By contrast to the heroism and energy of Mozart’s delightful Paris Symphony it shows how he employed his largest orchestral forces to date, using clarinets for the first time.”

Hummel’s popular, romantic Trumpet Concerto, with memorable melodies, will be played by Stephanie Ayton.

The concert will take place at 7.30pm at St Luke’s Church, Broad Street, Swindon. Tickets cost £8 for adults, £6 concessions, and accompanied children go free. For more details or to book visit swindonorchestra.org.uk.
