Jack Bottomley, guitarist with Marmozets, says that to get on in showbiz you need to live and breath music.

For Jack it was his love of guitar music that inspired him - he began playing at the age of nine. It was his school band that became the core of the Marmozets.

His little brother Will, three years his junior, was only 15-years-old when the band began to take off, and either mum or dad had to take it in turns to tour with their sons.

Today Jack and Will have just returned from touring with rock giants Muse, their album has been nominated for Kerrang Best Album of the Year, and Marmozets are appearing on the main stage of Reading and Leeds Festivals.

"It is pretty surreal touring with Muse, kind of crazy, good crazy,'' said Jack.

"We were fans of the band and now here we are being invited back stage to have drinks and hang out with them. It is inspiring. They are so famous yet still so nice, good people.''

Marmozets is a rock band made up of siblings because along with Jack and Will there is Becca MacIntyre, the lead singer, and her brothers Sam on guitar and Josh on drums.

"It was when Will joined and we recorded our first EP that things began to really pick up, until then we had been rehearsing in our bedroom, playing grammar school gigs and battle of the bands competitions. So, Will always takes credit for it,'' said Jack.

Coincidently it was Reading Festival that gave Marmozets their first break, through the BBC Introducing stage, in 2012, and last year they were invited back to play the NME stage. This time they on the main stage.

"I still can't believe it,'' said Jack. "Last year we played twice in one day which was stressful, we had about an hour in between the sets. This time we will have time to decide our set and do a bit of pre production work.''

The band are hoping to include their new single in the set.

"It is so new it doesn't even have a name yet,'' Jack said.

The musicians are delighted to have their album, The Weird and Wonderful Marmozets, nominated for the Kerrang award.

"We are over the moon at the recognition,'' said Jack. "We are not fussed about winning awards, it's all about playing music for us but we do appreciate it.''

The Marmozets have changed musical direction with each EP or album, while still retaining their distinctive sound.

"When we write stuff we get a different vibe and go with it. It's exciting. We are all equal in the band when writing, usually Sam or I come up with a guitar hook and everyone adds their own part to it.''

The band went through a tough time recording the album as Becca fell ill with flu, just as they were about to lay down the vocals.

"It was just before Christmas and we had to go to London to finish it off, but she's all good now.''

The Marmozets will be sharing the main stage with bands such as Metallica, Mumford and Sons and The Libertines. The festival runs from Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30 and the Marmozets are performing on the Saturday, August 29. - Flicky Harrison
