Rock band Kasabian take their music seriously but are not afraid to poke fun at themselves.

Last year the musicians recorded their own version of the Addams Family theme song calling it The Meighan Family Values, named after lead singer Tom Meighan's family.

They have been nominated by NME for nine awards, beating the record that was held by rock giants Oasis and they scooped Best Group at the 2010 Brit Awards. Kasabian are heading in to Swindon's own Oasis, at North Star, on Thursday, May 26 from 7pm.

Joining Tom and Serge in the current line-up are Chris Edwards on bass and Ian Matthews on drums. Ian was in Swindon earlier this year wearing his jazz hat, playing with the Denny Illett Trio at Baker Street in Old Town.

The musicians got together in 1997 when Tom, Serge and Chris were attending Countesthorpe Community College in Leicester and they called themselves Saracruse. Their first gig was at Chris' 18th birthday party at the local rugby club, and shortly afterwards they got signed to BMG. They changed their name to the Armenian surname, Kasabian, named after the getaway driver belonging to the Charles Manson cult, simply because they thought it was a cool name.

Hit singles include Club Foot, Empire, Days Are Forgotten, Eez-eh, Processed Beats, LSP and Shoot The Runner. They have five albums under their belt, four shot to number one in the album charts, and they are currently working on album number six.

The band are keen on sport and in 2011 performed Goodbye Kiss during the BBC's Formula 1 closing season montage. They are huge fans of their home town team of Leicester Football Club and will play at the Kings Stadium on Saturday, May 28 to celebrate the club becoming Premier League Champions.

Kasabian performed at the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend in Swindon in 2009 and they are always in demand at summer festivals including headlining Glastonbury in 2014.

Tickets to the Swindon gig are £39.50, £2.50 booking fee from https://oasis.cloudvenue.co.uk/kasabian - Flicky Harrison
