SWINDON’S fiery punk rock brigade, The Hamsters From Hell, kick off the New Year weekend in rockbustious style.
Led by Ian Doeser, the Hamsters have been kicking over the traces for more than 30 years. Ian and his fellow musicians have their own festive single entitled Oh No It’s Xmas Again, which is not one for your granny, and two albums under their musical belts.
Ian has been into the blues and rock scene for years and his earliest hero was Wilko Johnson. He was fortunate enough to meet and play on the same bill as him on a few occasions.
Ian has led bands including Doeser Goes To Hollywood and Ian Doeser and The Posers, but it was while he was playing with The Aggravators that Ian had his nearest clash with fame.
Made up of Swindon’s finest – Steve Baker, Nick Brooker, David Marx, Glen Doughty and Ian, the band managed to snatch a number three slot at a gig headlined by punk icons The Clash in Swindon in 1977.
They split and Ian formed The Hamsters From Hell, which has endured the test of time. They will kick up a rumpus from 9pm on Friday, December 30, at The Rolleston Arms, Commercial Road, Swindon, at a free gig.
