Think Floyd were a pub covers band before discovering the intricate prog rock anthems of Pink Floyd, and tomorrow their popular theatre show will be heading for Swindon.

Back in the 1990s the musicians played a mix of cover songs in the pubs and clubs of London and they also asked for requests. A Pink Floyd fan in the crowd shouted out: 'Comfortably Numb' but it wasn't on the boys' set list.

The guys set about rehearsing Comfortably Numb, and by the next week they were riff perfect.

The crowd went wild and the song became their encore number, so they added more Pink Floyd tracks until eventually they were performing a whole evening devoted to the rock band.

David Walker, a theatre promoter and huge Pink Floyd fan, came to the weekly Think Floyd night and snapped them up. Together they created a professional touring production that would take the musicians all over Europe and the UK.

Every so often the band comes up with a new concept to keep their shows fresh and this year marks the 50 anniversary of Pink Floyd's first release. So Think Floyd have created a new show spanning the decades with echoes of the prog rock giants’ music from all 15 albums.

They play tracks from The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall and finally The Endless River backed by a full scale laser light show.

The current band line-up is: Lewis Hall on bass, Richard Morse on guitar, Steven Farmer on drums and Kirk McLeod on keyboards.

In 2002 Think Floyd toured with The Wall and invited local school children to join them on stage and last year they marked the 40th anniversary of Wish You Were Here.

Think Floyd will be performing at Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre on Saturday, January 21 from 7.30pm. Tickets are £25.50 and available from 01793 524481 or visit www.swindontheatres.co.uk. - Flicky Harrison
