Wille and the Bandits have been riding the crest of the wave in the last few years and the Aussie front man still catches the rip tide in between gigs.

The roots rock band are now based in Cornwall and perform at a number of surfer hotspots such as Perranporth, Newquay, Falmouth, St Ives and Penzance.

This month they will be surfing into Swindon to play at The Vic, Victoria Road in Old Town on Friday, February 3 from 8pm.

Joining Wille Edwards in the trio are Matthew Brooks on bass and Andrew Naumann on drums.

The band are a popular addition to a number of summer festivals notching up slots at Surfstock, Maker Sunshine Festival, Isle of Wight and Glastonbury. The guys were listed in the top ten of 'must see' bands at the famous Glastonbury Festival in 2014 by BBC Radio One.

They have three albums under their belt, New Breed, Breakfree and Grow, plus they are currently working on their latest project called Steal which is due out this spring.

Wille says the aim of the band is to bring their ocean/surfer sound into this country.

"We are trying to take this sound into the mainstream. We are trying to get people involved in roots rock music which is quite big in Australia and America but just gets ignored here,'' he said.

The band are working with other bands such as the Wishbones, Martin Harley and Swindon's own Hip Route through the UK Roots Movement to create a scene for this type of music.

The band has toured with such luminaries of the rock world as Deep Purple, Joe Bonamassa, Status Quo and John Butler Trio and they have played in various countries across Europe. On one particular journey the guys discovered two stowaways in the back of their van just outside Calais.

The band will be playing such diverse instruments as tongue drum, djembe, lap steel guitar and double bass when they come to Swindon. Tickets are £8 from 01793 535713 thevicswindon@gmail.com - Flicky Harrison
