THE sound of music has been ringing out from the Arts Centre again this week as the Swindon Music Festival continues.

On Monday Charlie Carroll was presented with The David Moss Trophy after scoring 87 marks in the Woodwind Solo: up to Grade 1 category.

The Anya Bellamy Trophy went to Isobel Perry after she achieved 87 points in the Woodwind Solo: Grade 2 category, while Olivia Miller was awarded 88 marks and The Holmes Music Woodwind Trophy for her performance in the Woodwind Solo: Grades 3 - 4.

In the next category up - Woodwind Solo: Grades 5 - 6, Jonathon Rogers scored 86 points to be presented with The Louise Clarke Woodwind Trophy, and Niamh Potter’s 88 points saw her win the Woodwind Solo: Grades 7 - 8 category.

In the Strings: Beginners category Josie Yee was named the winner with 87 points, while Natalie Henry’s 89 marks in the Strings: Grades 1 - 2 saw her named the winner and the recipient of The Janet Forrest Trophy.

Niamh Potter also scored 87 points in the Strings: Grades 3 - 4 competition and took home The Seth Perkins Cup, while the Strings: Grades 5 - 6 category was won by Louis Edmondson with 87 marks.

Sally Armstrong’s performance in the Harp Solo: Grade 4 and under category saw her awarded 88 marks and named the winner.

In the Piano Baroque Solo - 11 and under performances, Neil Gonsalves was named the winner with 87 marks, which saw him presented with The Audrey Suter Junior Bach Trophy, while Ben McLean’s performance at the piano saw him win the Modern Popular Piano Solo: 11 and under with 89 marks.

In the Piano Sonatina – 11 and under recitals Alexander Jankinson was awarded the top spot with 84 marks, while Tanisha Navartne was named the winner of the Piano Solo – 11 and under when she was awarded 89 marks.

Proving that they were in tune with each other saw Christina Kwong and Zoe Tan as the winners of the Piano Duet - 16 and under category with 88 marks, while things were even more crowded on the piano stool for Rachel Dolman, Hannah Dolman and Lucy Burbage whose 85 points led them to victory in the Piano Trio – 16 and under category.

The Swindon Recital Series Senior Trophy was awarded to Samuel James after he was awarded 86 marks for his performance in the Instrumental Recital : 17 and over recitals.

The Piano Solo (Jazz): 17 and over category was won by Michael Pogany who was awarded 87 marks for his work, and he further won the Piano Solo (excluding sonatas) – 17 and over category with 85 marks.

Meanwhile, the Mature Piano (over 50) category was won by Steven Elliott with 86 marks.

The Ada Fisher Cup went to Zoe Tan after she won the Piano Solo: 20th Century – Amateur or Professional category with 89 marks.

Festival secretary Yvonne Walker praised each of the entrants: “It was an excellent day of music making at the Arts Centre today with many performers receiving high distinctions,” she said.
