SWINDON Music Festival ended with a final flourish on Saturday after a week of top quality performances.

Organisers and adjudicators praised the standard of the competitors and their teachers.

“It has been a very successful year,” said one of the committee members Graham Haines. “The children have been excellent, particularly the very young ones. It is encouraging to see the little ones taking part.”

He paid tribute to the teachers and families who had supported the performers, preparing them for the classes and being in the audience. “They make a big contribution to the festival.”

On the final two days of competition the results were:

In the junior vocal championship, boys’ folk song ages eight to 10 was won by Brodie Lee. Freddy Fox-Thompson won the boys’ solo ages eight to 10 and Jayden Kaye won the girls’ or boys’ under eight solo for the Swindon Advertiser Cup.

Girls’ solo - eight and nine was won by Sienna Wileman, songs from shows and films (eight and under) title was taken home by Amelia Shelford and Martha Humphries won the Holmes Music Girls Solo Trophy for 10 and 11-year-olds.

The Hardwick Family Trophy for girls’ folk song ages 10 and 11 went to Libby Stevenson while Emma Heal and Charlie Jepson won the 12 and under duets from shows and films. Kitty Pearson and Lilly James won the duet ages 13-16 and Martha Humphries came top in songs from shows and films ages nine and 10.

The Doris Parson Trophy for girls’ solo ages 12 and 13 was won by Harriet Hopkins while Emma Heal won songs from shows and films ages 12 and 13.

Catherine Forst took both the Vera Bennet and Gary Beint Trophies for her performances in Songs from shows and films 17 to 26 and modern pop song.

In the adult vocal final John Wilson won the mature class, Cathy Gibbs took first in the amateur or professional class and Caroline Pitt won contralto solo.

Marion Bird won ladies’ voice age 17 to 21, male solo was won by Bob Hills and Olivia Tuck won the folk song class.

Soprano and mezzo solo winner was won by Catherine Forty, the spiritual or gospel song title went to Caroline Pitt and TIOCCH won the Reginald Choules Trophy for groups.Natalie and William Forty won duets from the shows and films. William and Catherine Forty also took home the Don Oliver Memorial Trophy for their duet.

Songs by 20th Century British composers went to Helen Tuck and German lieder or French chanson was won by Cathy Gibbs. Helena Tuck won the Georgina Evenett Recital Rose Bowl. Senior vocal champion was William Forty and supreme champion was Zoe Tan. Meghan-Leigh Williams won the Folk Song Trophy, Zoe Tan won the Beatrice Plaum Challenge Cup and Christina Kwong and Zoe Tan tied with Andrew and Emily Sewell for the Beatrice Plaum Rose Bowl. Edward Jones won the Cyril Cripps Memorial Trophy.
