Rocking among the rocks at Wiltshire's famous Avebury Stone Circle will be a mix of music from the young pretenders on home ground, like George Wilding, to known names such as singer/songwriter Nick Harper.

Nick has recently been working with chart-busting songstress Lana Del Ray and has notched up nine studio albums and a rockumentary video called Love Is Music.

Nick was spotted by Glenn Tilbrook from pop band Squeeze. He was soon signed up to Glenn's own record label, Quixotic Records and is featured on recordings by Newton Faulkner, Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) and The Levellers.

Nick is the son of legendary folk singer Roy Harper, so he is no stranger to big names having grown up in a home with a revolving door to such luminaries as Keith Moon, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and Dave Gilmour.

Nick is the brainchild behind Avebury Rocks, which raises funds for Swindon's Prospect Hospice, a charity dear to the singer's heart.

His protege, George Wilding, has been quietly making a name for himself through open mic slots, writing songs since the age of 12. He was spotted by Nick and invited to play the first Avebury Rock s in 2011 and has played the festival each year since.

In a completely different vein, Benji & Hibbz are a hip-hop/soul act based in Bath, who built up to a six-piece who are ever popular at festival including the famous Glastonbury.

The sound of Americana blues will come wafting across Silbury Hill from Jamie and the Roots Collective. They’ve shared the line-up with Bellowhead, Wilko Johnson, Jefferson Starship, Eric Burdon, Carl Palmer, The Blues Band, Stray, The Quireboys, Dr Feelgood & the Yardbirds and supported Eddi Reeder and The Animals.

Getting everyone on their feet is the mission of the Ministry of Samba, formerly known as Swindon Samba. They got together eight years ago and play Brazilian-style music, but with a twist of sound bytes and loops using a launch pad sound processor.

The Vooz are another local band, hailing from Marlborough. Their mix of punk rock and modern indie music won them dates supporting The Vibrators, Julian Cope, Guthrie Govan (Asia, Dizzy Rascal), The Dacoits and The Quails.

Ulysses bring pure rock, Ukey D'Ukes play ukulele bounce, Kioko bring some dub, reggae and ska, while Morganway plays their fiery brand of alt-country.

Also shaking amongst the stones will be The Wiltshire Rock Choir. Members span all ages and come from all walks of life. They attend fun, weekly rehearsals and learn a repertoire of well-known hit songs, leading to performances.

The festival runs from Friday, Friday, July 7 to Saturday, July 8 at East Farm. Tickets are £40 for weekend camping, £10 for Friday night and £20 for Saturday. For more details visit http://aveburyrocksfestival.net/ - Flicky Harrison
