THE Swindon Advertiser has teamed up with ArcTanGent festival to offer readers the chance to win a pair of weekend tickets to the rock event featuring headliners Explosions In The Sky and Converge.

The festival is a mix of artists that are just outside the mainstream of rock music, with both established bands and up-and-coming new acts gracing the ArcTanGent stage.

Set on Fernhill Farm, 10 miles from Bristol, the festival runs from Thursday, August 17 to Saturday, August 19 and is the only UK date for both headliners.

One of the festival organisers, James Scarlet, said: “Once people have been to ATG, they seem to come back every year. It has this amazing sense of community and really feels like we’re all part of a secret club that the rest of the world doesn’t know about.”

Explosions In The Sky are Chris Hrasky, Michael James, Munaf Rayani and Mark Smith.

Footage of the band in rehearsal was used in the feature film Cicadas which won an Austin Film Festival award. The band also wrote the soundtrack for the 2004 film Friday Night Lights.

The instrumental rock band believe in true democracy within the group. Drummer Chris said: “I think we just liked the idea of a band where there was not a leader or main songwriter, everyone sort of collaborating and having their own say.”

The band’s compositions are sought after for many TV themes and have been used for the BBC documentary Lost Land of The Jaguar, Shopgirl, One Tree Hill, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.

More recently the band’s song The Ecstatics was used in this year’s Power Rangers film, and Remember Me As A Time Of Day was used in the 2015 film Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.

The hard-edged punk rock of Converge was formed from a group of high school pals who got together in 1991 and are best known for the Jane Doe album.

When they come to ArcTanGent, Jacob Bannon, Kurt Ballou, Nate Newton and Ben Koller, will be playing songs from their latest album as well as some old favourites.

James said: “Watching an unknown, but amazing band play at midday to a thousand people really helps with my faith in humanity! But nothing compares to 5,000 people gathering to watch the headliners – Converge and Explosion in the Sky this year will be out of this world.”

The festival includes three nights camping and more than 70 bands across four stages. Other bands in the line-up are Russian Circles, Tesseract, God Is An Astronaut, Devil Sold His Soul, Nordic Giants, Walking Aida and many more.
