THE Britpop Boys will be taking us a step back in time to the Cool Britannia of the 1990s, in a concert at Swindon’s Victoria pub at 9pm tonight.

The 90s tribute band will recreate a time when it was cool to be in a band and the music was loud and proud - the decade of chart battles between Oasis and Blur, when British music was in the ascendancy.

The Britpop Boys are a tribute to a whole genre of music, playing the best of Oasis and Blur, as well as the Stone Roses, Pulp, Shed Seven, Cast, the Charlatans and more.

The band was formed in autumn 2015, and is made up of Ian Kenna, Jon Harris, Steve Hopkins, Russell Webb and Jason Sidebottom.

Their music captures a defining moment in British music and youth culture.

Tickets are £6 on the door or visit thevicswindon.com.

Open mic night - for the kids

Children’s Open Mic Talent Show at Richard Jefferies Museum

THE incredible AF Harrold will be leading a Children’s Open Mic Talent Show in the Tent Palace at the Richard Jefferies Museum on Sunday.

A morning of poetry, play and fun for children under 11, the open mic will give youngsters a chance to perform a poem, a song or a story – one they have created, or a favourite written by someone else.

AF Harrold is the author of the hilarious Fizzlebert Stump series, and the award-winning book, The Imaginary. He has also written children’s poetry collections, including I Eat Squirrels and Things You Find In A Poet’s Beard (illustrated by Chris Riddell).

He is famous for his energetic and silly performances, where nearly anything can happen. Expect poems, jokes, beards and nonsense – and maybe a snippet of his new book, Greta Zargo and the Death Robots from Outer Space.

The event is part of Poetry Swindon, a festival of the written and spoken word based at the museum and running till October 9.

Entry to the Children’s Open Mic is £3 per child, adults £5.
