Folk fans may raise an eyebrow at the electronic high jinx and experimental mixing of musical magic from award-winning trio, Lau, who are coming to Marlborough this month.

Marlborough Folk-Roots welcome Lau in concert on Monday, November 27 from 8pm at Marlborough Town Hall.

The band are four times winners of the Best Band award in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and the line up is: Kris Drever (vocals, guitar), Martin Green (accordion, wurlitzer, keys, electronics) and Aidan O’Rourke (fiddle).

Kris, former band member of Kate Rusby's band, is the man in the middle of present day Lau, he began performing as a duo with Martin and as a separate duo with Aiden.

Then Martin moved north and Aiden east and the trio was formed, but they didn't play gigs until in 2005 they found their sound - jazz, folk, burlesque and performance art. This was just the beginning of their innovative journey and it wasn't until 2007 the trio began to make a real impact on the music world with their project Lightweights and Gentleman.

This was the explosive spark that ignited the electronic wizardry that made the band popular over the next decade as collaborators with known names such as the Royal Northern Sinfonia, Karine Polwart and Jack Bruce.

Tickets to see Lau in Marlborough are £19 from 01672 512465, Sound Knowledge at Hughenden Yard, Marlborough, or online at www.marlboroughfolk-roots.co.uk
