DAMIEN Barber, lead singer with electric folk band The Demon Barbers, has teamed up with Mike Wilson from the Teeside singing siblings The Wilson Family to form a duo which was nominated for the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Damien and Mike are the special guests of Swindon Folk Singers’ Club on Friday, February 16, at the Ashford Road Club in Old Town from 8.15pm.

Damien is usually immersed in folk, hip hop and dance with the Demon Barbers who won BBC Radio 2 Folk Best Live Act award.

When playing alongside Mike he performs a mix of pure traditional folk and more modern tunes. Damien also plays guitar and concertina.

The singer from Norfolk sang from the age of five at a folk club where Walter Pardon was the resident singer. He became a huge influence on the young Damien. Mike comes from the industrial North East and for many years has sung acapella with his sister Pat and four brothers. The Wilson Family have recorded a number of albums including Stocking Tops produced by Steve Rusby.

The Swindon club was started by Ted and Ivy Pool in 1960 and the aims were to give new singers and musicians a platform to showcase their skills and to foster interest in traditional British and other national folk music.

Tickets to see Mike and Damien are £4 for members and £5 for non members. For more details call 01793 521301 - Flicky Harrison
