The search is on for young singers, dancers and actors to star in a new production of 42nd Street.

Auditions for the Tanwood Youth Theatre's 2018 presentation of the popular musical takes place on Saturday, February 17 at The Studios in Delta 700, Welton Road in Swindon.

42nd Street, recently relaunched in the West End, is an American dream fable about Broadway, featuring songs such as: We're In The Money, Lullaby of Broadway, Shuffle Off To Buffalo and I Only Have Eyes For You.

Director of the Tanwood Youth Theatre, Pollyann Tanner, said: "We are looking for the leading characters for our big production of 42nd Street that is being held in the Easter holidays as a intensive production. As always there is a distinct lack of men and boys and this show most definitely needs them.''

The auditions on Saturday will be a series of workshops in acting, singing and dancing but aspiring stars do not need to have prepared anything before hand.

"Although it would help if they had some knowledge of the musical, but they do not need to be able to do tap dancing,'' said Pollyann.

The show will run from Friday April 13 to Sunday April 15 at the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon and the cast aged from nine to 21 years will be accompanied by a live orchestra. Tickets are from £17 to £22.

Pollyann said: "We hire in professional scenery and costumes and most of our production team has experience in the West End.''

The Tanwood Youth Theatre was set up by Pollyann to offer young people the chance to experience professional theatre.

"It is ideal as a stepping stone for those hoping for a career in theatre,'' she said.
