Dub princes Dreadzone are back on the road with their eighth studio album Dread Times.

As part of their tour the band will be stopping off in Swindon and playing songs from the album that stormed into the top 40 of the UK album chart, along with some old favourites.

Dreadzone notch up almost 25 years of keeping the reggae, electronica hip-hop and dub sounds alive. They got together in 1993, founded by drummer Greg Roberts, who was originally with the chart-busting band Big Audio Dynamite, and Tim Bran, who worked as musician and sound engineer for Julian Cope.

The band soon built themselves a following and reputation for explosive live performance, which won them the opening slot at Glastonbury Festival on the Pyramid stage in 1994, plus the release, on Creation Records, of their first album.

The musicians were supported by John Peel on BBC Radio 1 who named their album Second Light as one of his favourite albums of all time. They were signed to Virgin Records by this time and in 1996 scooped their only top 20 hit in the UK singles chart with Little Britain.

One of their tracks from the album Dream Within A Dream was chosen for the soundtrack of the film The Saint and they were asked to support Oasis at the Loch Lomond and Knebworth shows.

Over the years Dreadzone continued to record and tour and also set up their own recording studio under the label Dubwiser Records. The Good The Band and The Dread was their first project released from the label, it was a compilation album.

In 2012 the guys recorded their seventh album in the studio belonging to Mick Jones, formerly of The Clash. Mick was also featured on their single Too Late. This was Dreadzone’s 20th anniversary so they marked the occasion with a short film about their history.

Dreadzone are at The Vic, Victoria Road, Old Town, Swindon on Friday, April 27 from 8pm.

Tickets are £17.50 from 01793 535713, https://thevicswindon.com/ or www.dreadzone.com/live-dates/
