Ray Mann is lead singer with jazzy folk rock band Kola Koca. He writes all his own songs and is more a poet than a basic lyricist. “I don’t like injustice and I wanted people to share my poetry so I picked up my sister’s guitar and set the words to music to make them listen,’’ he said.

His narrative songs are distinctive and brought to life by his band which includes his daughter Nova on backing vocals. Ray grew up in Wootton Bassett and when he was 14 years of age had a try out for Swindon Town Football Club.

What was sports loss was music’s gain. He comes from a musical family with his dad in a jazz band, his sister Brenda sang folk songs, his sister Julie was into jazz and his mum played piano. His band includes Bill King on guitar and Dave Franklin on bass.
