Shred is a four piec rock band that mimex their own songs and their own arrangements of such bands as Pink Floyd and Motorhead. Darren is a professional musician with over 15 years of gigging and recording experience. A brilliant guitarist, who started his musical life playing drums, at only 3 years old.
His formal training includes a BTEC Diploma in Performing Arts and Grade 8 guitar. He graduated from The Musicians Institute in London with a Diploma in Guitar Composition and Performance, Platinum award and was also nominated guitarist of the year in 1996. As well as playing live with Shred, Darren is also a demonstrator and consultant for Sovereign Guitars.
Robet is on vocals and rhythm guitar. He fell in love with music when he was 12. The first song to make a big impression was Got My Mind Set On You, by George Harrison. This led him to discovering The Beatles which in turn led to a passion for guitar- based music, singing and song writing. It’s no coincidence that his two song-writing heroes are John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
When Robert was 19 he fronted his first band The Confused and joined the K School of music in Swindon. This led to numerous performances at the Wyvern Theatre and other local venues. At 25 he fronted his second band The Fields with which he recorded two CD’s. Dave is on bass guitar and vocals and he first got into music at the age of thirteen when he was given an electric guitar for his birthday.
A couple of years later, when a friends band needed a bass player, he traded in his six string for a four string bass. He has been a member of numerous bands, including Glorybound, Typhoid Mary, Saved By Me and Edison. Over the years he has toured Europe, been professionally recorded, and gained interest from record companies. He joined Shred at the start of 2007.
When not playing with Shred, Dave is a big hard rock fan, listening to artists including Metallica, Green Day and KISS. He also enjoys football (c'mon the Brewers), playing video games (Guitar Hero rocks!) and watching films.
Gerry on drums and vocals began drumming at the age of 12 and has played with all types of bands and musical genres from jazz to heavy rock. During the 1960's and early 70's he played for a band called Kaleidoscope who were support band to various named bands such as The Searchers, Billy J. Kramer and The Fortunes.
With a wealth of experience gained from countless semi pro bands over the last 40 something years, he's the power house that lays down a driving beat and rhythmic phrasing that makes Shed so tight. He has a major input to the original material that Shred collectively write and perform.
Now a full time musician and highly respected drummer, Gerry teaches drums and percussion, arranges concerts for his students and performs as much as he can. As the founder of Shred, Gerry also puts on a dazzling solo display of skilful drumming “The great thing about Shed is we all fit in musically and on a social level too. No one is trying to out play the next guy and we finally have a mix/performance level where everything can be heard, even the vocals – it’s great!’’
