SCOTTISH rock band The Proclaimers will not be walking 500 Miles, but they will be headlining at the Lechlade Music Festival this year.

The three-day festival runs from today, Friday, May 27, to Sunday, May 29 until Sunday and the Proclaimers aka twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid, who notched up hits with (I’m Gonna Be) 500 Miles, Sunshine On Leith and I’m On My Way and Letter from America, are playing tomorrow on the Saturday.

Dr and the Medics, who shot to number one with their song Spirit In the Sky, are making a welcome return after their dynamic set last year, along with Hunter and the Bear, Vesbim’s Pink Floyd Show UK, musicians from Swindon’s Academy of Music and Sound, Alex Rainsford, Elles Bailey, Zurich and many more.

Last year it was Status Quo who headlined the festival, which began in 2011 from an idea by Lechlade locals Jennie Rainsford and Fiona Marsh.

The three-stage event on Riverside Park has 70 bands playing and aims to promote local talent and offer a fun family day out with onsite camping, a burlesque revue, funfair, workshops and dance tent.

Arkells Brewery is the sponsor of the main stage this year and the festival bars will feature Arkells ales.

Brewery managing director, George Arkell, said: We are really looking forward to a wonderful weekend of music, laughter and family entertainment. We are also hoping for good weather.’’ This year there will be stalls including Kaynara jewellery, the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, The Royal International Air Tattoo, face-painting and festival garlands, Silver2Dream jewellery, an Indian Temple filled with fairtrade gringo clothing and much more.

Camping starts from 2pm tomorrow. Tickets are £79.95 for whole weekend camping, £59.95 without camping, children free. Saturday or Sunday only £30. For more details visit http://www.lechladefestival.co.uk. - Flicky Harrison
