Inspired by Swindon band XTC, the indie pop duo The Hoosiers are double headlining the Lechlade Festival with Essex boys Dr Feelgood.

The family-friendly festival at Riverside Park, Highworth Road, Lechlade, takes place from May 26 to May 28 with 80 bands playing over three stages on the Bank Holiday Weekend.

The Hoosiers are Alphonso aka Raymond Sharland the drummer and Irwin Nathaniel Sparkes the lead singer and guitarist. They were encouraged to form the band by their chemistry teacher, Grant Serpell who was in the 1970s hit band Sailor.

The guys won themselves a football scholarship to the university of Indianapolis where they chose the band name. A citizen of Indiana is nicknamed a Hoosier. The musicians scored chart hits with Goodbye Mr A, Worried About Ray, Choices and had a top 10 album with The Illusion of Safety.

Dr Feelgood have been going in various line-up changes since the 1970s when boys from Canvey Island, Lee Brilleaux teamed up with the kooky guitar maestro Wilko Johnson. The band notched up hits such as Roxette, Back In The Night, Milk and Alcohol, Down At The Doctors and See You Later Alligator. When Lee died the band continued without any of the original members, first with Pete Gage as lead singer and now with Robert Kane, formerly of the rock band The Animals, in front man role.

Both bands will headline the Sunday night festival finale.

Opening the main stage on Friday afternoon will be students from the St Lawrence School in Lechlade, and a workshop tent will be under the guiding hands of the Academy of Sound and Music every morning.

Coming all the way from New York will be the Gentleman Brawlers with their psychedelic revivalist sound.

Stalls include the normal arts, crafts, clothes, jewellery and bags along with Mehindi Moments offering henna tattoos, and psychic readings, Tarot and holistic therapies to revive flagging festival-goers.

The festival prides itself on having something for all the family including workshops for a chance to try out belly dancing, story telling, yoga, learn to play the recorder, community singing with Kel, a paper aeroplane competition, and for the very young there is the Jelly Babies, who only play songs from children's films such as Shrek, Ghostbusters or The Minions.

The Jitterbug Circus makes a welcome return, along with the Kids' Play Tent, bouncy castles, craft and chill tent and a new attraction is Last One Standing, which originated on the TV programme Total Wipe-out, try it if you dare!

On the Friday it is a celebration of tribute bands with Abba Arrival, Not The Rolling Stones and Modraphenia playing hits from Small Faces, The Kinks and The Who to 80s revival numbers from Paul Weller and a host of Motown classics.
