Boogie woogie keyboard wizard Ben Waters is returning to Swindon, this time with his son Tom, an up-and-coming sax player.

Unlike his contemporaries, Ben had no interest in the heavy metal bands that were considered the essence of cool when he was at secondary school. His passion for music was inspired by a much earlier brigade of rock artists, such as Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Ben taught himself to play piano by watching videos of his rock 'n' roll heroes, and also from Ian Stewart, who formed the Rolling Stones with Brian Jones. Ian was a friend of Ben's family and he saw him play at family birthdays, watching avidly how he performed.

Ben's big break came when another rock 'n' roller, Shakin' Stevens, asked the pianist and his band, to play with him on an international tour. From then on Ben's musical path was laid, performing with some of the top names in the business such as Ronnie Wood, Ray Davies, Jools Holland and PJ Harvey.

Recently Ben has recorded a tribute album, Boogie For Stu, dedicated to his mentor - Ian Stewart. Charlie Watts came on board with the project along with Dave Green. Jools Holland allowed Ben to use his own studio to record the record and the album cover, a painting of Ian Stewart, was created by Sir Peter Blake. The album was a hit world wide and continues to notch up funds for the British Heart Foundation in Stu's memory.

Ben will be playing at the Swindon Arts Centre, Devizes Road, Old Town on Thursday, January 19 when he will be bringing Tom. The young sax player performs on an instrument given to him by Tim Ries, saxophonist for the Stones. Young Tom was watching the Rolling Stones concert in Hyde Park in 2013 when he met and impressed Tim.
