A GROUP for horse mad youngsters is planning to expand after winning nearly £70,000 in Lottery funding from Sport England.

Hoof Club, a not-for-profit community interest company being run at Rein and Shine near Purton, is expanding its facilities so more children can learn how to care for horses.

Its director, Johanna McDonald, said: “Our club has been widely embraced by communities near and far and we have achieved over 100 members in the last two-years.

“Thanks to Sport England, the new funding will allow us to significantly extend our membership and range of activities.

“The children love spending their evenings, weekends and holidays out in the fresh air doing something they love and making great friends whilst learning and progressing in riding and horse care.”

Children from all backgrounds join the group. It means they can take part in weekend events, day camps and competitions without having to own their own pony.

Aimed at four to 16 year-olds, it is split into three age groups and attracts members from a 50-mile radius. Adults can join in with stable management courses and jumping and dressage teams and the club caters for children with special educational needs.
