Have a go at playing a harp in the serene setting of a Saxon church near Malmesbury at Crudwell Strawberry Fayre next month.

The annual strawberry fayre is celebrating its 30th anniversary in July and to mark the milestone there is a distinctly musical theme to the event this year.

As well as the performance by the award-winning Dursley Male Voice Choir on Friday evening, July 7, and the popular Sizzle and Swing big band night on Saturday, visitors to the fayre will enjoy free live music on the village green as they tuck into their strawberries and cream.

Musical performances include a piano accordionist, an acoustic guitar duo, Crudwell School choir, a fiddle and mandolin player and a saxophone quartet.

And for those who like to have a go themselves there are fun singing and African drumming workshops with professional teacher Connie Shackleton Jachnik on Saturday, July 8 and harmonious harp workshops with Nailsworth harp makers Hands on Harps the following day.

Enthusiastic singing and music tutor Connie has performed with the Welsh National Chorus as well as touring internationally as lead vocalist with a jazz band.

She promises to improve the quality of your singing in the shower and to pass on her enthusiasm for the simple yet stimulating rhythms of African drumming.

On Sunday, July 9 accomplished musicians and affordable harp makers Creag and Morwenna Rose Louttit Vermaat will bring their harps to the church for a small group to learn at first hand just how easy it is to play a tune on one of these beautiful instruments.

None of the workshops is longer than an hour and all are suitable for every level of ability over the age of eight.

Details and booking arrangements for all the above events are available on the strawberry fayre website at www.crudwellstrawberryfayre.co.uk
