EVENTS could take place seven nights a week at the Old Town Bowl under a new license application submitted to the council.

The bid to change the license at the historic Town Gardens venue would also allow alcohol to be served until 10pm and increase the number of events from four each year to ten.

Reggae Garden festival organiser AJ Mayhew, who made the license application, moved to assure residents that they were not planning to organise midweek music events at the venue.

He said: “We’re applying for a ten events license, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to do ten events a year.”

The new license would give event organisers “flexibility”, he added.

The license bid was submitted to Swindon Borough Council on Friday and paper copies of the application have been displayed around the Old Town Bowl.

If approved, it would enable event organisers to:

  • Allow events to be run any day of the week, rather than just Saturday and Sunday;
  • Increase alcohol sales until 10pm;
  • Increase the hours of all “licensable activities” until 10.30pm;
  •  Show films at the Bowl;
  • Increase the number of events per year from four to 10.

Nadine Watts, ward councillor for Old Town, said that she would be happy to arrange meetings with the council’s licensing team on behalf of residents.

Anyone interested in commenting on the application should write to the council’s licensing team by Wednesday, January 10.
