Punk is family affair
Charred Hearts are a family affair, with lead singer and founder member Dermot Fuller recruiting his son Sam on board to play drums. The original line-up formed more than 25 years ago as Swindon's answer to The Sex Pistols. The first incarnation was called The Corpses - they got together in 1981 when the musicians were 14 or 15 years old. In 1983 they became Charred Hearts and split up in 1986. They got back together in 2001 just for fun. Today the line up is Dermot (singer and guitarist), Eamonn Treanor (bass), Lee Fellows (guitar) and Sam (drums). Charred Hearts will be punking it up tonight from 8.30pm at The Flag, in Bridge Street, Swindon. The gig is free.
Tutors up on stage
Dorcan Performing Arts Group will be strutting their stuff at a pamper evening to raise funds for their group from 7pm tonight. The group will be entertaining, with a special appearance from the three tutors of the group, at the Holiday Inn, Coate, in Swindon. The organisers are Lauren Timlin and Lauren Wilcox, DPAGS art award students. Entry is free.
Waltz into dance
LIam Leary and Riky Denham are performing at a dance organised by the Moloney School of Irish Dancing tonight from 8pm. Organiser Patsy Moloney said: "There will be a waltzing competition for two silver cups and a display of Irish dancing.''
The dance is held at the Polish Club in Whitbourne Avenue, Swindon and tickets are £6 from 01793 642368.
Tipped for the top
Glasvegas are releasing their new single Geraldine next month on Columbia Records, and to promote the record the band are touring the UK and stopping off in Swindon tomorrow. The boys from Oxford have been recording their debut album in New York with producer Rich Costey, who has worked with Franz Ferdinand, Interpol and Muse. Glasvegas are heading for the 12 Bar, Westcott Place. They are also playing at the Glastonbury Festival and are hotly tipped as being the big thing this year.
For the Harrisons forming a band was very much a family affair with singer Blaine and his dad Henry creating the Mystery Jets for a party on Eel Pie Island.
