It is fast, it is frenzied, it is frenetic and a fabulous tribute to hardcore dance music before the term was coined by the hip-hopsters.
HIt folows hit on this mega compilation including My Girl, Night Boat to Cairo, The Prince and within these monster sounds are two songs unheard previously called Sunshine Voice and Lost My Head. They were unreleased rehearsal tracks.
The first CD is the track listing of the original One Step Beyond album, the second is a rehearsal tape from 1979 and the DVD is a mix of video, recordings from Tops of the Pops, the Old Grey Whistle Test and the Young Guns Documentary that was done by the BBC in 2000.
It is 35 years since the album was first released and the goldenbrown warmth of Suggs voice recalls those heady days of Madness when the world felt young and crazy.
The six-piece mixed up so many strands of so many genres into their ska sound with its rockabilly, jazz, reggae fusion that Madness have become the nutty professors of 2Tone and long may their grace our ears with their loony tunes. - Flicky Harrison
