KRILL - Distant Fist Unclenching
KRILL are a part of the burgeoning Boston DIY music scene along with bands such as Speedy Ortiz, but the grunge trio owe much to the city's rock forebears, Pixies, in their quiet-loud dynamic and singer Jonah Furman often sounds like Black Francis at his most histrionic when he cuts loose.
On their second full-length album, the group have created a knotted, jerky masterpiece which crashes from sweet melodies to driving rock.
Tracks Torturer and Squirrels barrel along with unhinged energy while the wonderful Brain Problem is so taken with its wired intensity it seems unwilling to end. The lyrics are similarly unforgettable with Furman, brother of indie wunderkind Ezra, creating a nightmarish world.
They may be named after one of the world’s smallest living creatures, but these guys are going to be huge.
