As a warm up to rocking around the Christmas tree what could be better than a hot toddy of gyrating guitars and fretwork fireworks.
I am not a huge fan of tribute bands but I have seen Limehouse Lizzy’s recreation of a Thin Lizzy set four times and they never fail to deliver.
The late Gary Moore has always been one of my favourite guitarists and I think it was his phenomenal playing that lured me into becoming a staunch Lizzy fan. In Swindon at the The Furnace, the boys from Limehouse gave a heart-stopping rendition of Out In The Fields, written by Gary.
The two guitarists in Limehouse thunder out all the old favourites such as Chinatown, Emerald, Dancing In The Moonlight, Boys Are Back In Town and Rosalie with such fire and passion it makes your toes curl.
Wayne Ellis the bass player and lead singer does bear an uncanny likeness to Phil Lynott. He is simply larger than life, an entertainer through and through with star quality written all over him.
Many of the women in the crowd seemed to have a bit of a crush on Wayne.
His voice has beautiful pitch which he rocks up into a frenzy before gentling back down into a soft harmony that makes the hairs on the back of your neck rise.
The guys came back for a mega strut-your-stuff encore of Black Rose and ended with a sing-a-long of Whiskey In the Jar.
Super stuff!
