He’s done it again!

Ore Oduba has topped the Strictly Come Dancing judges’ leaderboard for a second week running after scoring 36 points for his classic waltz.

The sports presenter, who won viewers’ hearts with his jive on last week’s show, was given nine points by each of the four judges, with Craig Revel Horwood describing him and partner Joanne Clifton as “delicious”.

Actor Danny Mac was in second place after scoring 35 points for his rumba to Sam Smith’s How Will I Know with partner Oti Mabuse.

Judges appeared to enjoy Daisy Lowe’s dance, who began her charleston with a first in the programme’s history, dancing in pitch black while wearing luminous white gloves and shoes.

At the bottom of the leaderboard for another week was politician Ed Balls, who stepped onto the dancefloor fresh from his first spray tan on Friday.

He received 18 points for his American smooth with a hitch-hiking theme to (Is This The Way To) Amarillo and made the judges nervous by precariously lifting partner Katya Jones at the end of the performance.

Although he improved on last week’s score by four points, Craig described his dance as the “antithesis of smooth” that lacked in “any style whatsoever” while Len Goodman added: “The trouble with hitch-hiking is you always get a dodgy lift.”

Earlier in the day, it was decided Laura Whitmore would not be able to dance following an injury to her right ankle developed while practising the jive.

Speaking to the cameras, she said: “Devastated as I am that I can’t dance this week… I have to think about resting it and sorting it out for next week.”

It is expected that she will be able to return to the competition next Saturday.

There was also an extra challenge for signer Anastacia as she danced with replacement Gorka Marquez after her usual partner, Brendan Cole, was diagnosed with a chest infection.

It did nothing to hinder her performance as the judges awarded her quickstep 30 points, with Len telling her: “I don’t want to upset Brendan, but that was your best dance.”

While it was a week of illness for some of the Strictly team, Louise Redknapp was whisked away to Paris to practise her romantic rumba to the Michael Buble version of Always On My Mind.

She earned a score of 33 points but failed to “excite” the judges. Craig said: “At least you got a free trip to Paris.”

Olympic jumper Greg Rutherford received a score of 24 for his cha cha, which he and the judges noted could cause him problems because of the knee movements involved.

Television’s Judge Rinder, who began the programme with a military-themed jive to to Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, delighted judges and viewers with a dynamic performance and one-handed cartwheel, earning him a score of 29.

He was followed by actor Lesley Joseph’s exotic tango as she played the part of a fortune teller, achieving 24 points from the judges.

Last to perform was Olympic gymnast Claudia Fragapane, who rounded off the programme with a lively samba to Young Hearts Run Free on top of the judges’ desk. She and partner AJ Pritchard scored 32 points.

The results programme will continue on BBC One at 7.15pm on Sunday, where the next contestant to be eliminated from the competition will be announced.
