We were on the road again with Wiltshire Phenomena Research on their latest paranormal investigation at an engineering factory in Salisbury.
It has been reported that a factory employee had been found outside the building by his colleagues and had refused to go back into the factory on his own. He left their employment soon after. With other paranormal activities also reported, the team were looking forward to starting this month long investigation.
The vigil, which began at 10pm, covered thousands of square feet of factory and office space. Thirteen investigators were brought to the location to ensure that adequate coverage of the site could be achieved. The team set-up base camp in the reception area of the factory and began to unpack their equipment. Several of the team were outside the building and it was here that a noise was heard from the empty first floor. Everyone looked up to see the curtain gently moving as if someone had been peering out and suddenly drew back from sight! After several minutes it was established that in fact someone had been doing exactly that and had been in the office upstairs, but it certainly got the adrenalin running and set the scene for the events to come that evening.
The group split into smaller teams and ventured into the factory space to begin the nights work. I was pleased to find that by random assignment I had been placed with one of the group co-ordinators. Our last pairing up had been interesting, especially the incident that occurred in the attic of a haunted theatre.
Each group was allocated an area of the factory to investigate and we set off. It was a fascinating place with high ceilings, raised metal walkways, paint rooms and narrow storage areas. The centre of the building was filled with individual working spaces which left narrow corridors criss-crossing the factory floor. The ceiling was high and invisible in the darkness. Outside it had begun raining and the constant cacophony of running water rushing through unseen pipes filled the ears.
We returned to base camp after an hour. My team had witnessed loud bangs from the over head walkways and we eagerly listened to the other members’ reports of shadows and noises they too had encountered. As the clock turned midnight and suitable refreshed with coffee, we set off again. This time we were joined by another team member and the three of us investigated the centre of the factory. Near an intersection our new team member described a shadow moving along the wall behind me, reporting it looked like the face of a woman. This brought back memories of another investigation, when just after being struck by an unseen force, I was told there was something stood behind me. This kind of thing does little for my greying hair! Other noises were encountered as we moved to the centre of the factory to conduct a vigil. A low hissing noise filled the air around us after our call out and further activity was reported later by other group members as we encountered them on the factory floor.
We moved to the location where the ex-employee witnessed the event that forced him from the building. It was a long narrow structure with a fork lift truck and racing car at one end. As I stood next to the fork lift I joked that ‘This is where someone will jump out at me!’. As the words left my lips there were two loud angry bangs right in front of me. It sounded like someone taking an iron bar to the fork lift. We called out, but nothing further was heard.
As the investigation ended we all returned to the base camp. Similar accounts were being reported by all the investigators, that of shadows, hissing noises and unexplained bangs.
My thanks to WPR for allowing me on this investigation. This was by far the most interesting and potentially active I had investigated with the group. The investigation continues throughout July and into August.
